Chick-Fil-A and Dead Gays

How are they related?
Are they related?

Uganda executes gay people, you know.
In America gays are at least allowed to breathe. Allowed to live. Even allowed to marry! (in some states!)
But in Uganda? They are put to death. It is literally illegal to be gay in Uganda.
Pretty scary stuff.

A few years ago, the United States tried to pass a bill, H Res 1064. The purpose of this bill was rather simple: to condemn the execution of gays in Uganda. Sounds decent, right? Even to the most conservative Christians, I would hope.

But The Family Research Council stepped in and spent a whopping $25,000 lobbying federal lawmakers to halt its passage! It was not passed.
And where does the Family Research Council receive funding?

Chick-Fil-A.

Forget DADT and DOMA. We are talking execution of innocents.
Forget gay marriage for a second.
Let's talk about the death penalty for gays.

I wholeheartedly agree with Voltaire's quote:
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"
Barring franchises is un-American.

It seems now that the Chick-Fil -A debacle is more than "gay marriage" and "gay rights". Even more than speech! It is about funding a hate group.
It's about funding Uganda's anti-homosexuality bill and the horrors that go along with it.

Can someone please tell me the difference between Hitler's execution of gays in Nazi Germany and the execution of Ugandan homosexuals? Maybe I'm completely off base?

"I think that the supreme court decision Lawrence v Texas which overturned sodomy laws in this country was wrongly decided. I think there would be a place for criminal sanctions for homosexual behavior. We should outlaw gay behavior." -Peter Sprigg, Family Research Council, [Feb 2, 2012]

[2010 paper]

So please, carry on and enjoy "Chick Fil A appreciation day" if that's what you choose. I would never stop you from doing so. Just remember what and who you are funding.

Sigh. I really didn't want to post about this y'all. I didn't. =(

Isn't blaming Chick-fil-A for the murders in Uganda kind of like blaming Bush for the economy?
That House Bill sounded like the usual politically correct piece of trash that allows everyone to feel good about themselves but doesn't really do anything else.

Aren't murdered homosexuals worth just a little more than that?

Like a US Marine invasion of Uganda perhaps?

@PrisonerxOfxLove - I'm not blaming chick fil a for the murders. The Ugandan government is to blame. I am just letting folks know what kind of organizations chick fil a donates to.

There's no way to justify supporting execution of anybody whose (harmless to others) lifestyle is disagreeable to us.  But I don't think it's a good idea to attempt to force other countries to obey our commands.  A lot of the people who demand that we stop execution of gays in Uganda are the same one who condemn American foreign policy for being "invasive."  We can have it one or the other, but we can't have both.

@blonde_apocalypse - The attitude towards gays in Uganda was HUGELY family research council's fault to begin with:

http://ancoraimparo.xanga.com/739950776/item/

So in this case, in my opinion, involvement was justified

Exactly! Hukabee conveniently skips these facts and almost "MOST" American Christians are now playing the "victim" card acting like it is a free speech issue. Completely skipping these facts. They could care less. They have no heart. If your gay in Uganda you don't even have to act upon it. They will "out" you in the local newspaper and you are finished. Like a hunted animal. Even if you are a virgin. African Christians are so pro-active they go on the hunt for people that "might" be gay.

"Sigh. I really didn't want to post about this y'all. I didn't. =("

Thanks for getting a little more aggressive and doing the right thing. Sorry about your parents. My parents (Super fundie self righteous Christian *holes before I came along) would never do that now. I have taught them well :) In my hometown (moved back recently) if it wasn't for the fact I am an amateur powerlifter who can work with my fists I know for a fact my old friends (1 specifically) would try and bully me physically. They talk and the rumors have spread like wild fire. But face to face they won't say a word and are completely respectful. Fear is great if used to keep idiot's in line. Great post.

That's disgusting. How anyone can justify having such a position, fund it and make it pass, then live with themselves - it amazes me. How does a person get to the point at which they can superciliously believe that they are so superior to someone else that it's okay to promote their execution?

That is terrible. I didn't know this. I do not approve of ANYONE being executed for any reason. It makes me sad that Christians cannot act more Christian.

I tried to say something along the same lines, but didn't reference Uganda. It makes me sick the way this issue is twisted into an issue of free speech and religious freedom. Any excuse to continue the persecution of the gay community.

P'raps there are more reasons behind this $25k donation than just gay marriage? Perhaps its as sovereignty issue, like, we shouldn't be stepping into what is already and internally Ugandan thing....but then again, our President just this year DID send an invasion force over to Uganda to help capture James Kony....

Please provide a link to the Family Research Council trying to stop that bill.  They actually lobbied to change language of the bill, not to stop it.  LINK

@grim_truth -

You are going to stand up for this hate group?
I got it from the lobbying report screenshot which read: "Resolution Pro-homosexual promotion."
"Promotion" my left tit.
So the link you provided quotes Tony Perkins stating that he did not lobby to kill the bill (as you are claiming above), but instead wanted to "spell check it". Ok.... 25,000 in funds dished out for a spell check. Claimed by a man who described blacks as “retrograde species of humanity” in 2001 to an audience of white supremacists.
He plainly stated "FRC does not support the Uganda bill"
Not supporting+lobbying against=not supporting.
And if that's not the case provide ME with a link outlining what and why, exactly, they wanted to change the bill.

But you know what? It doesn't even matter about this bill and whether or not you support it.
Chick fil a ALSO funds organizations like Exodus international.
Exodus international sent a person (among others) to Uganda for a three day conference in which the "experts" spread hardcore anti gay rhetoric in the first place. Link

These organizations were flat out HARMFUL in a volatile place like Uganda. And Chic Fil A happily donates under the disguise of christian charity. Jesus would be pissed, methinks.

@AncoraImparo - I am going to stand up for the truth.  The article I linked to stated what they wanted changed.

However, if you are going to make that assumption, since Chic Fil A Donated, then you must also admit that Susan G Komenn foundation kills babies because they donate to Planned Parenthood.

There is no difference when making the assertations.

Just because someone thinks differently than you, does not mean they are hateful.
